What Do I Bring?

Sometimes there’s lot of mystery around what to bring to a tax preparer. Other than your W-2, sometimes it’s hard to determine what’s important. For Neighborhood Tax Centers, we have a handy little checklist that you can bring in with you. If you stop at a center prior to getting your taxes done, you can even take an envelope with a checklist on the front. It’s a handy place to keep all the things as you collect them.

What to Bring/¿Qué debe traer?

  • Social Security cards or ITIN letters for each family member
  • Photo ID

    Don't forget to come prepared!

  • Documentation of income:
  1. W-2 and 1099 forms for all jobs worked
  2. List of checks or cash received for work
  3. Interest and Dividends
  4. Social Security
  5. Unemployment
  6. Retirement
  • Documentation of expenses paid:
  1. Business expenses and mileage if you worked for yourself
  2. Child care provider name, address, tax ID#
  3. Tuition and books for college
  4. Student loan interest
  • If you own a home or are itemizing:
  1. Mortgage interest
  2. Property taxes
  3. Donations to charities
  4. Out-of-pocket medical payments
  • Check with bank account and routing number
  • Last year’s tax return
